Poole Museum tells the inspiring story of a town and a people shaped by the sea.
Across six galleries, five floors, and our house and gardens, we tell Poole’s story through art, unique exhibits, and interactive experiences.
Explore our collections, you’ll see shipwrecks and giant walrus tusks and hear our myths and legends, our triumphs and tragedies.
You’ll feel the sea’s awesome power and how it has shaped us.
Poole Museum is always changing, with vibrant community spaces for pop-up events, guest exhibits, and a beautiful café where you can spend time together in a unique building steeped in our local history.
Step out of the everyday to relax, come together and be inspired. Poole Museum is here for you.
Poole Museum is curently closed for an exciting redevelopment and due to reopen in summer 2025.
Welcome to Poole for All
At Poole Museum, we believe that history and culture should be for everyone, and that every visitor can explore independently, equally, and with dignity throughout the museum.
We’ve made some big changes to help everyone feel welcome and comfortable:
The entire ground floor of all public areas is now on one level.
We’ve installed a larger lift in Oakley’s Mill and, for the first time, added a platform lift in Scaplen’s Court. This lift has two stops to accommodate the unique layout of the historic building.
We’ve created generous circulation areas and clear orientation spaces to help you find your way with ease.
New ground floor accessible toilets in both Oakley's Mill and Scaplen's Court
